Not your Normal Library

The St. Helena Public Library provides more than just a place to read. There is a library cat celebrating her first anniversary with the library this month. There is Storytime twice a week for children, and Tuesdays are family Drop-in Crafts day with a different make and takes each week.

Additionally, the library offers weekly Bilingual Pajama-Rama/Pijama-rama bilingüe – a pajama party where everything happens in both English and Spanish. And the Reader of the Pack program gives children the opportunity to read to someone without criticism or distraction. Only a dog could be this great a friend, and after nine visits with a Reading Buddy, children earn a free book donated by the 4Paws Learning Center.

During the summer, the library expands its offering with the Focus on Film series (featuring Mel Brooks movies in July), movies and events for kids and teens, Family Night events, and some incredible one-of-a-kind events – including a Stuffed Animal Sleepover with breakfast for the kids the next morning.

And how many libraries offer wine tasting classes? If you enjoy wine but do not understand the language, come to Wine Tasting 101 presented by the Napa Valley Wine Library. This class combines discussion, teamwork, Q&A, and the Aroma Wheel to teach you how to recognize, remember, and talk about the differences among wine varieties. There is a fee for this class and seating is limited, so register at www.napawinelibrary.com to reserve your space. The next Wine Tasting 101 is July 20th with additional classes on August 17th and September 21st.

Libraries are supposed to support their communities, but when your community is Wine Country, that support becomes extra creative. The St. Helena Public Library offers more than just books and databases; they offer development of the imagination! Whether you are in the area for the weekend or for a lifetime, this is a place to visit – again, and again. And, of course stay with us at The Candlelight Inn Napa Valley.
